Picked up an original WearEver Popcorn Pumper. Add thermometer; add Costa Rica La Rosa SHB; take her for the first spin. At the tail of 1C the 'stat kicked in and shut her down (hack that later). Cup was unexpectedly fruity and balanced. I'll do that again. |

I roasted some of our local green Bean Bay offering in AU 600 gr of Sumatra Mandheling Mystic TP to rolling second crack CS 8/9 How do I explain a feeling & resulting action Its one of those coffees that you enjoy so much that you forget you have finished it but continually pick up an empty cup to sip again Mouth feel is silky smooth Flavours are a mild mix of sweet berry with a mild but balanced chocolate after-taste If roasted a little darker others that have roasted the same bean say they get a caramel flavour KK I home roast and I like it. Was not too thrilled with the way this one turned out so I roasted a 2nd batch. This time a full 30 seconds into C2. Smells good after roast.....we'll see... Anybody else roasting this and care to share their thoughts on it? |

Yes went through a couple of batches before I nailed it I got some mild berry notes after an 8 day degas Try this As a rule of thumb for roast depth, think... lemons, berries, caramel, chocolate, charcoal... in that order of roast depth. So the flavour profile will be determined by the your roast colour depth I hope that makes sense KK I home roast and I like it. Designer of the KKTO

I only had a pound so that's the end of my Blue Krishna experience. In terms of favor relating to roast profile. How do you determine profile based on the flavor you are seeking? I know thats a complicated question, but do you have a general version for dummies? ![]() |

I have noticed that some dont get good until 5 days or so... I'm kinda lazy I guess in that I use the same roast profile across the board and dont know enough to adjust for different coffees. |

Wow KK, that was actually very informative. I have been relying on the preset profiles of the Behmor. Now that I'm building my BBQ roaster I need to develop my own. My wife and I have noticed a sour taste when my roaster doesn't quite get the beans into SC. We don't like sour coffee. I have wondered why it tastes sour. I knew it wasn't roasted long for our taste, but I hadn't considered the length of roast between cracks. I figured it just needed to get to SC period. Thanks for that info! |

Today it's a bit of Sumatra Lintong Special Prep, roasted to FC+. After that I will do up a small batch of Brasil Serra Negra - Mtn Water Decaf. This is a bean that I am pretty impressed with; does a really nice decaf. Oh, and a large pot of tomatoes from the backyard on their way to becoming some nice red sauce. |

Thanks for the advice about slowing down the time between 1st and 2nd C, KK. I have been looking for the appropriate excuse to a Gene roaster and I think that you provided it. Now to get my credit card balances down to pay for it ---then I will really be in COFFEE HEAVEN. Thanks a lot for your dedicated posting to teach us. I over roasted a batch of Panama Boquette Carmen Estate. It is almost black and oily. I brewed a cup of it. Yet it does not taste that bad, though there is a slightly burned taste. I will use it up as a minor component in other blends to see what the effect is. This may give me the courage to let some of the others go to 2nd crack. I have been stopping mine at the end of first. Has this happened to anyone elsr. It looks like a Vienna roast; not all the way to French.
