Give that Ethiopian Yirgacheffe time to de gas I would say a minimum of about 10 + days or it will kill a few taste buds on the way down ![]() KK I home roast and I like it. Designer of the KKTO

That would kill me! ![]() I've been waiting 4 and 5 days for Ethiopians lately. How is it even possible that gas is still coming out of that tiny bean 10 days later? Today's Roast 600gr Sumatra Panjang Mandheling The bean sellers notes for this bean is Quote Sumatra Panjang Mandheling. Translucent blue/green in colour with a golden layer of chaff this wet hulled Mandheling produces huge body and liquid chocolate type pours ooze from the group handle. Deep, rich and earthy without the funk sometimes associated to some Sumartran coffees. Great as a single origin at CS9-10 roast depth or add a higher acidity bean to make an excellent espresso blend. Isn't the beginning of second crack a full city plus roast? Here's the guide I've been using from Sweet Maria's http://www.sweetm...uideV2.php Now then, our own home page says the beginning of second is full city. Which is it? Help me out. Well, so much for standards, eh? There's inch, there's metric, there's metric tonne... Interesting. I wonder, KK, if there's a temperature chart to go with the color chart. Is the number system pretty widely accepted throughout the country? or is it more specific to coffeesnobs.com Now this is fun. And most interesting. John Respect the bean.

We have a guide FC between 9 to 12 min depending on the bean @ 195 to 205 deg Celsius + 6 min to SC @ 218 to 222 deg Celsius Well that's how I understand it to be As to the number to color system I think its mainly coffee snobs that do it KK I home roast and I like it. Designer of the KKTO

Quote Koffee Kosmo wrote: We use a number system on Coffee Snobs generally 7 is FC 9 is SC ![]() KK Do you mean the 7th image from the left is First Crack and the ninth image is Second Crack? Those look dark to me. I would expect First Crack about 5 and Second Crack about 8. And if I had to put temperatures to these images (viewed on a Dell Lattitude E6400), I'd guess 1-green 2-200F (95C) 3-300F (150C) 4-375F (190C) 5-400F (205C) 6-415F (212C) 7-425F (218C) 8-435F (224C) 9-440F (227C) 10-445F (229C) 11-450F (232C) 12-460F (238C) All in the eye of the beholder. You were on the money with this coffee! It has been taking taste buds down every couple of days I would sample it. I roasted it on 10/30. This morning...9 days later... it has finally mellowed and no longer has the dry process funk flavor. I'm still not getting potent fruits, but it does have a banana flavor now. |

Robusta is easier to roast than Arabica No change required in technique You will notice the roast colour to be very even on Robusta KK I home roast and I like it. Designer of the KKTO

One snap of C1 and I waited for it to "really" start......and waited.....and finally dropped the temp as the color was getting really dark and I figured I must have missed it. Ended @ onset of C2, which was audible and acted normal. Also...chaff did not come off as neatly as most arabicas. Had to pull off a bunch by hand after roast. Anyways...that's why I got some...to experience something different. Edited by smatty1 on 11/14/2009 5:25 PM |
